Working with Emma is one of the best decisions I made postpartum. Not only had I gained 60lbs, but after my daughter was born, my body had the most aches and pains I’ve ever felt in my life – if I sat up the wrong way in bed, my neck would spasm and lock up like Alcatraz. Of course one of my goals was to shed the weight (plus a few) in a healthy way, but my main focus was to rebuild strength. No one tells you about the insanely uncomfortable positions you have to get yourself into to nurse your baby (especially when you have a very large chest!). My neck, shoulders, forearms and elbows (!!) were in constant pain.

As a stay-at-home mom, when/where/how I work out can be challenging. From the get-go, Emma was incredibly supportive of this; Zoe has been in the gym with us ever since she was 3 months old (now 14mos). It’s a special circumstance no doubt, but there’s no way I would’ve been successful without Emma’s extreme patience, flexibility and passion for fitness. I credit Emma for my new love of working out which has become my new normal/routine - something I crave from my past life when I was working full-time. I truly believe working out makes me a better mom because simply put, it makes me happy. And I love that Zoe gets to watch her mom kick ass in the gym. Emma has seen her go from a blob lying on the floor, to crawling for the first time to walking straight to the kettle bell bench. She squats (with perfect form of course), cheers me on and copies my breathing.

Emma is a dedicated, empathetic and smart trainer. She’s also:

  • Detail oriented: focuses on the pre and post workout as much as the workout itself (which a lot of trainers don’t do and is so important!). I especially appreciate her attention to and knowledge of mobility exercises.

  • Empathetic: very in tune with the human body and makes you feel like she knows exactly what you’re going through when something’s not feeling right (with no pressure to “just work through it”).

  • Reliable: always shows up when she says she will.

  • Resourceful: if she doesn’t know the answer to something (which is not very common) she is honest and quickly comes back with a solution after researching. I also love that she brings new techniques/exercises that she’s constantly learning from the industry.

  • Connected: to holistically strengthen my neck, shoulders and arms, she recommended two different physical therapists that were fantastic. She also referred my mom (whom she now trains online) with a New York hand doctor after having a bad experience with one in Florida.

It’s so much fun watching your baby grow, but it takes a toll on your body when your always holding, chasing and maneuvering her in every which way (hello NYC subways without elevators, plus a stroller and a diaper bag!). I essentially have a 25lb kettle bell at my side at all times and there is no way I’d be able to function as the physically involved mother I am without the strength I’ve built over the past 11 months with Emma. I’m proud to say that with this new strength, I’ve lost 65+ pounds and look forward to my workouts every week.

Last January I had hit my heaviest weight ever and knew it was time to hit the gym but after more than six months without progress, I knew I needed some help. That’s when I turned to Emma.

I used to go to the gym and do low-intensity cardio for 30 to 45 minutes and lift light weights for 15 to 30 minutes. And after going to the gym three to four times a week, I hadn’t seen any real progress. I was feeling frustrated

Now, my workouts take the same amount of time as before – but I get so much more accomplished. Emma told me that if I wanted to see progress quicker, I should try for five times. So, I did. And the results were worth it

Emma designed workouts for me that incorporate a warm-up, cardio, strength training, core, and cool-down, and still get me in and out of the gym in about an hour.

A year later, I am much stronger – having worked up from a 35-pound deadlift to a 70-pound deadlift (and still counting)! I have changed the composition of my body – losing 20 pounds, generally toning my whole body, and building more muscle mass, particularly in my lower half.

I also adjusted my diet to see these changes, but the workout program was a huge part of my success and when I started to notice progress, it was so motivating

I feel more confident when I'm at the gym and when I go to the gym, I am even better at designing my own workouts.

I also feel more confident outside of the gym – my clothes fit better, I feel more positive, and I don’t even feel too self-conscious going to the beach. For me that is a huge win and Emma's program is to thank.

February 2019 231lbs 51% body fat

August 2019 173lbs 34% body fat

How did I do this?

1. Signed up to train with Emma of EmmaBe Fitness this past February 2019.  I was terrified at first but Emma’s patience, respect, and knowledge made me want to stay committed and see this journey through, even when I didn’t believe in myself.

2. Upon Emma’s suggestion, I started calorie and macro tracking 3 weeks into training.  I am an overeater, so tracking my meals helped me to understand what and how much food I was eating.  Please note I did not do keto or any low-carb fad diet.  I am a vegan for the animals for many years, and I transformed from a junk food vegan to a mostly whole foods vegan.  No starving myself, no fasting, no gimmicks, and no animals on my plate.  Real food=real progress.

3. In between training, I started to move around more, doing HIIT treadmill workouts combined with steady cardio treadmill workouts 2-3 times a week for 20-30 minutes, and increased my walking in between whenever I could--the stronger I got, the more I was able to do month by month both during and outside of my training sessions.

I still have a ways to go but I am really happy with my progress six months in.

If you are on the fence about whether to start Emma’s program, don’t waste another moment deliberating. Your health is your most precious asset and your body is your best accessory.

With Emma’s expertise, you’ll be on your way to a more fit body, better energy, and overall improved health.

Same dress....almost a year apart....The woman on the left was uncomfortable in her body after having given birth 7 months before. She was getting frustrated, insecure and angry her bounce back was slow. The woman on the right is confident, comfortable in her own skin, not as tough on herself and stronger than she was before.

After speaking to a friend and talking about needing to change up my workout routine bc I was plateauing and hella frustrated she recommended I speak with Emma about her online coaching program. After speaking with Emma I was sold. I started working with her in September 2019 and I don't regret it. Emma's crafted a program for me that I can do at home with some simple gear most people have at home or can easily obtain. Emma listens to your needs whether they be time constraints, working with your injuries or just plain taking something out that you totally hate lol. She makes it so that you enjoy working out but don't get me wrong it's by no means a breeze you'll still get your sweat on bc she makes it challenging. I also started drinking more water than I had been before (about 100oz per day), meal prep at home for lunch because it not only saves money but makes me more aware of what I'm eating and stock healthier snacks for myself at work. When I do eat my pizza and tacos during the weekend I'm not so hard on myself bc what's life without some good "bad" food in it??

The hard work I've been putting in for myself had paid off and honestly without Emma's guidance I would still be uncomfortable in my own skin. I am now proudly a few pounds under my pre-pregnancy weight and feel better (both physically and mentally) than I have in a very long time and it's all thanks to Emma!

December 2020 Update!

From March until now I’d become slightly inconsistent with my workout schedule and diet. As a way to combat this and celebrate one year of working with Emma I decided to join her SheBeast Bells and Bodyweight Program.

I finished the program this week! I always forget to take progress pictures but this time I made a point to take them [see pics above]. While I definitely lost inches and slimmed down over all, what you don’t see in this photo is the last 8 weeks worth of sweat where I perfected my deadlifts, swings, and turkish get-ups with a 20lb kettlebells. I’m on my way to perfecting my goblet squat and kettlebell cleans and close to doing a perfect push-up!

Sometimes you just need to trust the process and let the pictures speak for themselves!

Florida

I’m a 69 year old grandmother. I live in Florida, have worked out with several trainers over the years, some good and others not. I met Emma through my daughter who lives in NYC and was working out with Emma as she tried to get back in shape following the birth of her first child.

Given that I live in Florida I wasn’t thinking about starting with someone that works and lives in New York but as I watched Emma in action and was going to be in NYC for awhile, I decided to give it a try. Emma asked me what my training goals were. I told her that I wanted to be strong enough to lift a growing baby and be able to have enough energy to be active enough to keep up with her. We spent our first session assessing my strength and endurance. Emma then tailor made 2-3 face to face workouts a week for me for the next 3 weeks.  Posture, correct techniques/progressions and safety were stressed during each warm-up, exercise session and cool down.  I gained strength as well as confidence and felt great, without hurting myself!

Emma had mentioned online training to me as our face to face training was winding down. She introduced me to an app called TrueCoach where she posts personalized workouts along with FABULOUS videos of her showing and explaining each exercise as well as the warm up and cool down. I saw that I could give her feedback on line and she could respond.  And I’m happy to say that it works great! It’s a great tool! I can also contact her if I need clarification or support. I have NEVER felt better about or had better results working out at home alone.  Emma is a trustworthy, creative, enthusiastic, skillful trainer and a pleasure to work with!
